Description:

5mm. Tiny brown beetle similar in form to a scarab or chafer

Habitat:

Attracted to light in a public phone box at night. Surrounded by woodland, reclaimed and native landscaped bush and swamp

Stephen, this cockchafer beetle is in the subfamily Melolonthinae and christmas beetles are rutelinae http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_scarabs/Melolonthinae.htm http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_scarabs/Rutelinae.htm You will find an error in the first text line in the second link, please don't let that be confusing. Rutelnae have thickened forelegs and metallic elytra. These are the traditional christmas beetle in Australia. http://www.rutelide-dundee.com/images.htm
Oh I see. your June bug is the same as our Christmas beetles. There are a lot to choose from though
