Field Notes

Description:

Very large, brightly colored in blues, greens and purples. Hefty thorax. Green face with "bulls eye" pattern.

Habitat:

Near a slow-moving spring-fed creek. They were breeding and laying egg in tandem. Other dragonflies (including different species) would occasionally try to knock a tandem pair out of the sky. The one with motion blur is coming out of the water after being dunked by a third dragonfly.

Notes:

Photographed September 2013 near Bull Creek, Austin, TX.
