Field Notes

Description:

I have identified this as a ruby-throated hummingbird juvenile (or it could be a young male). It does not have much color. Young males look like females until their first winter, after which time they will get their adult male plumage.

Habitat:

Indiana Dunes State Pk Chesterton Indiana. They provide nector feeders in their nature center so hummingbirds can be seen and appreciated.
