Talus slopes in alpine habitats. Talus provides cover.

Recently petitioned for listing under ESA; listing found to be not warranted.

Sorry about that. ESA is Endangered Species Act. Apparently there is concern that climate change could result in reductions in alpine and timberline habitats; and is probably the primary reason that someone (or group) petitioned the US Fish and Wildlife Sevice to list this interesting species. I took this picture back in 1987. It would be interesting to see if others have seen them at this site recently, or other places where I have seen pikas. I think I will look into that!
Nice spotting of a species which many of us will never get to see or even hear about without this picture. Out of interest, what is ESA? All I get on a search is European Space Agency and Employment Support Agency! This is a worldwide site but unfortunately many acronyms remain unknown to those outside their sphere of influence. I used to work for SAF
