Great find! I'm not sure if you were referring to Protambulyx strigilis by "Streaked sphinx", but that species is not found in NC, and is also quite different in appearance (see. P. strigilis in the link below): http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/species.php?hodges=7818
