Common Boneset

Eupatorium perfoliatum

This is a really pretty plant, and one that is quite easy to ID once you know the "trick". Look at the leaves; see how they are joined at their bases, wrapped around the stem? Bingo. Boneset. In early days, folks believed that a plant's appearance indicated what illnesses it could treat. (There's a term for that, but I can't remember it...) They saw this unique feature of the leaves "set" together, and figured it would bind bones together as well. So, "bone set" plant. Boneset. A fun bit of trivia for you. :)
