Field Notes

Description:

This small damselfly is named for the bright red-tinted spots on the base of each wing. It is common along the banks of the Middle Rio Grande in the summertime, skimming over the water and resting on riparian vegetation, most notably the Coyote Willow.

Habitat:

This specimen was observed along the banks of the Rio Grande, flying above the water and resting on branches.

Notes:

Several of these were seen, as well as other damselflies.
