Field Notes

Description:

Chains of cells with rounded, capsule-shaped structures in each cell. I think each rounded capsule is actually inside a more rectangular shape, as you can slightly see where the two individuals are joined in the second photo. I believe this is likely another phytoplankton

Habitat:

A marine biologist on board skimmed some plankton using really fine mesh nets and we took a drop from that sample and placed it under a microscope. The sample was skimmed in Izhut Bay just off Afognak Island in somewhat shallow water (less than 200 feet).
