Field Notes
Description:
Orange-brown bodied flying insect with clear wings carried in delta shape, long thin abdomen and long antenae, black or dark eyes, body ~3cm.
Not timid, flight fairly slow.
Having a cup of tea between laundry loads and good book and this one joins me in the middle of the page, drawn in by my reading light I expect, as window open to enjoy the jasmine. Content to sit and keep me company.
Habitat:
South east Queensland, suburban, but close open dry sclerophyl forest and scrub.
Notes:
I was surprised to see this described as looking like other flies. Really? Doesn’t look like a fly to me, but then I’m not an entomologist. I can see the mandibles and this one sat and appeared to be staring at me with its head cocked on the side. Feel free to eat the moths little buddy.
