Description:

Brown mantis about 6-inches long.

Habitat:

It was nice enough to let me get to its level on the deck for its portrait. Found in Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.

Notes:

Yeah, females are pretty nasty to their lovers.

Thank you "ForestDragon" for setting me straight on this mantis. It's a Stagmomantis carolina female. Females have shorter wings that don't reach the end of their abdomen, making them virtually flightless. A male's wings may be shorter or longer. A female's abdomen is also "strongly widened" in the middle.
