Field Notes

Description:

Family: Asilidae
20mm

This robber fly has the antenna in plumose form, i.e., like a feather. Its legs are black femur with yellow tibia and black tarsus. Wings are dark brown in colour - http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_robberflies/YellowRobber.htm

Notes:

I found it sitting on Hairpin Banksia plant (Banksia spinulosa) with a damaged left wing. Love the beard :)

Its eye in the last image also seems a bit damaged... - nice series.
