Field Notes

Description:

A small fairy ring of Amanita thiersii in my yard, the rains we've been getting washed off most of the bumps on their caps, but the gills and sticky texture of the caps lead me to believe this is Amanita thiersii, however, I'm no mycologist.

Habitat:

This mushroom can be found in lawns, pastures, and prairies. Native to Texas and found in nine States overall, Kansas being one of them.

Notes:

This mushroom is believed to be poisonous. Unlike most Amanita species, this one doesn't grow around trees, it's also saprotrophic in nature, in contrast to its mycorrhizal Amanita brethen.
