Field Notes

Description:

A ♂ Platycryptus undatus jumping spider staring at its reflection in the camera lens. I love the orange faces of the males in this species (like in this photo). While the females lack the orange faces, their diamond patterns on their abdomens are darker and much bolder.

Habitat:

Urban; found on the brick wall on the outside of my house. During the summer, this species is often spotted there.

Notes:

This is a very unique species of spider, and I remember seeing them when I was very little.

Thank you! Your compliments mean a lot! I always find the Platycryptus undatus on a certain wall of our house in the summer. I actually witnessed a "mating ritual" once where the male pursued the female, but she wasn't interested, and eventually jumped far away.
Another nice capture Jack!
