Habitat:
On a large, feeder tree in our front yard, near a frozen lake (Lake Blanche), within one city block of woods, marsh and farm field
Notes:
Last year was the first year I saw Blue Jays coming to eat our beef suet and then only one or two. This year I have half-a-dozen or more sitting in the birch tree waiting their turn at the suet. This fall my dad put a handful of roasted, unsalted peanuts-in-the-shell out on our patio each day. To this day I have Blue Jays landing on our split wood on the patio looking for peanuts. I don't like them being that close to the windows and patio doors so, when I've had peanuts I've put them in the platform feeder on the tree where these Blue Jays were photographed. Blue Jays, like many birds, have incredible memories remembering not only where to find the food but recognizing the people that put it out for them as well
