Field Notes

Description:

A small wasp about 4mm long with a red thorax and black abdomen with white patches on sides. A small sting seen at the rear of abdomen.
The wings appear to be tinted black.

Habitat:

eucalyptus forest

Notes:

This little insect flew around like a wasp-it appeared to be "looking" for something. All that was visible was its red thorax and the white of its abdomen.
I apologise for the poor quality photos but it was important for me to document this little wasp. I am calling it "tricolored wasp" until I find an ID. I am hoping to see one again at my next visit to the location.
