Description:
Papilionidae; Papilioninae; Papilionini; Menelaides deiphobus rumanzovia Eschscholtz 1821. On comparing this specimen with pictures in Philippine Lepidoptera, it appears to be a female in a morph. known as "white form". Wikipedia refers to this butterfly as Papilio rumanzovia and give a detailed explanation of the reasons for doing so. however, I prefer to use the scientific name shown here.
Habitat:
This Scarlet Mormon was spotted on a Button Orchid (Dischidia nummularia) which has been growing for the better part of 20 years on the trunk of a Currant Tree (Antidesma bunius) in our front yard. I don't think that this orchid (or the tree it is growing on) would have any suitable nutrients for this butterfly. So, it is probably safe to say that it was simply resting.
