Malurus cyaneus
-32.7911, 151.391
Field Notes
Description:
Found in family groups, the male of this species stands out in the crowd with his beautiful blue crown, cheeks & upper back. He has a black nape, breast & lower back & his underparts are white. Females are fawn & light brown with a lighter coloured belly & a reddish-brown bill. Tiny, between 11 & 14 cm, they are adorable, non-stop little birds who have been on my wish list for a long time. I'm thrilled to have finally got a shot of this guy.
Habitat:
These darlings are found in coastal areas, rainforests, swamps & gardens. They prefer somewhere they can hide in the undergrowth & are found from the central QLD coast of Australia south to South Australia. A sub-species M. c. cyaneus is found in Tasmania.
