Field Notes

Description:

The Sicklebush or Bell mimosa (Dichrostachys cinerea) is also known as the Chinese lantern tree or Kalahari Christmas tree.

This tree was a small, bushy, thorny tree with deep green bipinnate leaves. The flowers were beautiful, bottle-brush like, with heads which are half pink and half yellow. The buds look like beautiful pink and yellow mulberry fruits.

Habitat:

Found along an off beaten track, hilly road alongside other wildly growing plants.
