Field Notes

Description:

This plant has large arrow-shaped leaves with an almost marbled look close up. Its roots are edible. Each leaf is on a separate stem from the ground.

Habitat:

This plant likes to grow near water or in shallow water. These plants were in a jungle canyon.

Notes:

Taro is cultivated as a good source but it also grows wild, as seen here.

Sounds like fun! Yep Taro has been cultivated in flooded fields and is traditionally a staple source of food for the Hawaiians.
