Australian Common March Fly (male)

Tabanus australicus, also known as horse fly and green head, is a species of insect in the family Tabanidae. As with most biting flies, it is only the female march flies that bite as they need blood to produce the next generation. Needless to say, when they bite, they are ferocious! The males have larger metallic green eyes and feed on nectar. Size was between 1.5-2 cm in length. The fly in this spotting was smitten with my car. Once it got in, it did not want to leave!
