Field Notes

Description:

A medium sized antelope, measuring up to 70 cm of height in shoulder, elegantly built. It shows a short smooth coat, fawn in color, with head and neck paler. Inside the legs and underparts are white. Buttocks are white, contrasting with a dark patch extending down the rump. There is also a dark horizontal band on flanks. Head with black-white-fawn pattern, carrying long and elegantly spiraled horns of up to some 30 to 40 cm in length (observed).

Habitat:

Lives in groups (harems) of between 10 to 30 females and one buck; these groups may join in larger herds during non-mating season. Here, this harem was observed in a mixed herd with Cokes hartebeest look-alike... Observed in savanna-like area of Nairobi National park.

Notes:

Corrected - I wrongly identified this fella as Grant's; I always had some problems between the two...
