Description:
This is the distinctively striped multicolored shell of a young sea snail (about 1 cm long). These marine snails can reach an inch in length. It grazes upon algal film. The watertight operculum seals moisture within its shell, enabling it to survive for extended periods.
Habitat:
Found this one in a rocky Pacific tide pool. Generally, the dotted periwinkle is abundant in the high intertidal zone. They originate from Madagascar.
