Description:

About 65 species of hawk moth are found in Australia. This one found ripe bananas and used its proboscis to extract the banana pulp .

Sinobug
Not a hawk moth unfortunately Nicole, but a Fruit-sucking Moth (no surprise there), subfamily Catocalinae, Family Erebidae. It is a bit dark, but it is probably Eudocima species. These will usually have vividly coloured hindwings beneath their rather drab forewings.
