Field Notes

Description:

Quite large and impressive locust, one of the largest european species; with body length of some 5 to 6 cm - further 1,5 cm to be added to full length when resting (wing tips). Short antennae. This specimen was marbled brown and dark-green. The key characteristic to IDing was these stripped eyes, and the dorsal orange stripe on pronotum.

Habitat:

Usually seen from June to November on Adriatic coast, and favors scrub-land, maquis and grassland. This fellow was found inside our house, hanging vertically on our kitchen napkin and resting. This is a regular occurrence during summer time.

Notes:

Thanks Josip Skejo for the correction of ID, and the help.
