It looks like a purely parasitic relationship with the spider dieing.
Wow! Just amazing... I wonder if there is any benefit to the spider or is it purely parasitic?

Thanks mauna and Yuko. I had to look hard to see that there was a spider under all the fungus. Luckily I have a mycologist friend that was with me and he was able to identify the fungus.
Truly amazing. The spider is nearly unrecognizable.
