Field Notes

Description:

An adult male with a black head, neck and back. A white breast, yellow eyes and a grey bill that has two white rings. This is a small to medium size diving duck.

Habitat:

Spotted in a slough at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.

Notes:

Their breeding habitat is wooded lakes or ponds in the northern United States and Canada. The main breeding area is Northwest boreal forest territories.
