Field Notes

Description:

Light brown with white patches and black squiggly design. The proboscis looks greenish.

Habitat:

I had chopped up a small over ripe guava from my garden....this butterfly came to have lunch.

Notes:

This butterfly likes to drink juices from over ripe fruit.
http://eol.org/pages/164768/details says it is sometimes a minor mango pest...I am happy that I have two mango trees in my backyard too.
According to a guidebook I have it is listed under Schedule II of the Indian Wildlife Act...I am not sure what that means.
Called Bhushunda in Bangla.
