Description:
Large waxy leaves, with one large trunk up to around 5- 6 feet then begins branching off with large branches. Drops cones containing red seeds. Leaves are green/ yellow in color. Large in size. Around 25 feet. Their fruit dropping contain red seed that contain key nutrients for local wild life. These seeds are eaten by most birds, deer, racoons, squirrels, and opossum.
Habitat:
Predominantly southern, but can grow in northern areas as well. Found in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina. Found in dry forests and around the edges of swamps. Used commonly in yards and used as shade trees.
Notes:
These trees do especially well in urban areas. They are relatively slow growing and not very competitive towards other species. They above many other species hold a special resistance to damage by sulfur dioxide.
