Field Notes

Description:

Not directly related to the true tits, the Long-tailed Tit is a tiny round-bodied bird with a long, narrow tail. It has dark-streaked ear coverts, and yellow-orange upper orbital skin, well visible here. This little bird was a very quick visitor and didn't give me the chance of a second shot to get its tail.

Habitat:

A patch of mixed deciduous/conifer forest.

Notes:

Widespread throughout temperate northern Europe and Asia, into boreal Scandinavia and south into the Mediterranean zone.

Thanks Hemma! They're ridiculously little, and their small size makes them quite vulnerable in winter...
Thanks António and Daniela! Yes, António, it was, possibly my fastest here. I tend to take pictures and then forget about them :-(
A cutie!
Great cache Daniele, this was fast, between the moment of the photo and the load of the spotting :-)
Thank you Ali! This bird just appeared at the feeder at my window . This is Project Noah in action!
