Field Notes

Description:

The collared kingfisher is a fairly common bird in these areas. This bird happened to be perched on a tree well lighted by the morning sun that made this shot possible with a 200 mm MILC lens at ISO 160, f/8, 1/80 sec.

Habitat:

Mangrove. However, the place where the kingfisher was spotted and frequently visits are stands of canary wood (Nauclea orientalis).

Notes:

I can only hear the collared kingfisher make calls for the past days. While keenly looking out for the kingfisher, I missed a big bird just a few meters above me that suddenly flew away with powerful flapping wings. Lesson: tread carefully and be observant while looking out for birds in trees.
