Field Notes

Description:

A medium-sized, bulky sparrow. They are very streaky and brown in appearance with thick streaks on a white chest and flanks. The head is a mix of reddish-brown and gray - although the shades and the amount of streaking vary extensively across North America with a wide variety of regional differences.

Habitat:

Spotted in a meadow at Boyd Audubon. This bird kept flying back and forth between the woods and the top of this birdhouse. It was always carrying something in it's beak.

I'm thinking that this is a Song Sparrow. It's the first I've seen, but matches the description, I think: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Song_Sparrow/sounds
