Field Notes

Description:

About 20mm, longish, mostly black, with four faint pale spots on the abdomen and a distinctive white tip. Cute tiny blue eyes.

Habitat:

Found slowly prowling around an outer urban laundry at night... looking for some clothes to nest in.

Notes:

These spiders are native to southern Australia, have welcomed the home building activities of humans particularly clothes and bed linen storage and have acquired a (possibly undeserved) reputation for necrotising bites. Just in case... we have sent them to NZ also. <br>

Yes, we love sharing our wonderful wildlife with our dear neighbours. I think there are several smaller white tail types as I see them under bark sometimes. I must have a closer look next time.
