Field Notes

Description:

Tan colored on one side, and a powdery whitish coating on the other. Cup-shaped, and attached directly from the middle (no stalk). Other Peziza varieties in the same area.

Habitat:

Growing in hard clay soil, where I have been sheet mulching with old newspaper.

Thank you! Gotta love having a messy yard sometimes, if only because it creates awesome breeding grounds for critters and mushrooms!
That looks good. I haven't heard of this one but it around here apparently. Well done.
Thanks Argy - actually, looking at some other photos, I'm thinking this one is a Peziza repanda! But thanks for the suggestion! It's crazy how hard it is to distinguish some of these fungi.
These might be Auricularia auricula-judae? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auricularia_auricula-judae (same for your similar spottings)
