Field Notes

Description:

A completely brown, reddish-brown praying mantis 4.5-5 cm long. I have zero resources for identifying these incredible creatures.

Habitat:

This mantid was found blending into the dark trunk of a tree alongside a trail in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador.

Notes:

It continued to pray while I photographed it. Evidently its prayers were answered as I put it back on its tree.
