Field Notes

Description:

The Philippine crocodile (Crocodylus mindorensis), also known as the Mindoro crocodile or the Philippine freshwater crocodile, is one of two species of crocodile that are found in the Philippines, the other is the larger Indo-Pacific crocodile or saltwater crocodile (crocodylus porosus).

Habitat:

The Philippine crocodile is only found on the islands of the Philippines. This species of crocodile is one of the most severely threatened crocodilian species. There are roughly 250 left in the wild as of September 2011 according to an article by National Geographic.

Notes:

I'm so sorry to say but the island sells the meat as food in frozen pack at the preservation/farm area.

Hello Ange. As I previously advised, please move the photo of C. porosus (#4) top a separate new spotting. Thanks
You're welcome. Don't "combine" but add a separate spotting for C. porosus :-)
Thanks for all the info @S Frazier. I'll combine the other spotting which is the larger crocodile-saltwater
Thanks. These are NOT the estuarine/saltwater crocodile C. porosus because they have fully developed post occipital scutes (big scales behind the head). I'm no expert on C. mindorensis, but it does have such scales...
Thanks! I added more photos these are a bit on the yellowish color than dark brown
Hmmm it sort of looks like it has larger scales (known as post occipital scutes) behind the head...This may just be the photograph which only shows part of the neck and with water beads. "Most" Crocodylus porosus (the only other naturally occurring crocodile in the Philippines) do not have enlarged scutes on the neck and look like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/centralaustralia/6185254232/ whereas the only other "wild" crocodile in the Philippines (the Philippine crocodile) does have these. See http://www.palawaniana.net/album/animals-in-palawan/two-juvenile-crocodiles-jpg/ You'll have to decide which it most closely resembles unless these captives have some from some other place :-)
