Field Notes

Description:

short waisted wasp around 20mm long, some red/orange colouration about the head and thorax, the wings were transparent brown with black tips. The abdomen was plain black with a grey bloom

Habitat:

sub-tropical arid tree/bush savanna with hot, wet summers and dry, mild winter

Notes:

the all black tail should be diagnostic, I imagine, as many of these type of wasp have bright red, orange or yellow bands or terminal portions to their abdomens

Hi Marco, if you've time to spare and want to see a few more wasps try http://www.ispot.org.za/search/node/Hymenoptera ,a bit restricted geographically compared with PN but it has its virtues.
I suggest you to read this paper for the identification http://digitallibrary.amnh.org/dspace/handle/2246/995 and this for the actual nomenclature https://www.academia.edu/1159361/A_catalogue_of_the_Eumeninae_Hymenoptera_Vespidae_of_the_Ethiopian_Region_excluding_Malagasy_Subregion._Part_II_Genera_Delta_de_Saussure_1885_to_Zethus_Fabricius_1804_and_species_incertae_sedis
Do you have a reference? (not in my insect book)
This isn't a Synagris, it's a Rhynchium marginellum sabulosum.
