Hi apqrxr, Please look at the beetle in my Species Suggestion. I think it is a correct identification, but in Wikipedia, there is a picture which shows "two keels on the outer side of the tibia of the third pair of legs" (that would confirm the I.D.) and I can't quite see that well enough in your photo. So, I don't know if the "two keels" are there or not.
Hi apqrxr, the beetle in your picture is an Earth Boring Dung Beetle of the Superfamily; Scarabaeoidea. I am sorry that is as much as I can help you right now. I live in Southeast Asia and I am not familiar with the beetles of Finland, but it is a start and if you search online for pictures of "Scarab Beetles of Finland" you should have a chance of identifying your spotting. I see that you are new to Project Noah. So, you will be welcomed by one of the rangers as soon as your spotting comes to their attention. Maybe it would be acceptable for me to welcome you, unofficially until then. I am busy on a little project right now, but as soon as I have a moment, I will try to identify your beetle for you. By the way, your picture is very nice. Good spotting.
