Field Notes

Description:

Mushrooms up to 5-6 cm tall
Caps conical (although probably not fully opened); approximately 2 cm diameter
Cap. Tan brown; dark area at apex; radial deep brown radial striations from cap to pale margin.
Gills. Off-white; not attached to stem; not crowded; complete gills alternating with partial gills.
Stem. Up to approximately 5-6 mm diameter; ‘translucent’ brown with fine off white ‘hairs.’ distinct white mycelium at base of stem; no annulus.

Habitat:

Mushrooms growing in loose cluster on well-decayed wood in deeply shaded area in a mixed pine/hardwood forest near lake shore.

Notes:

Possibly a mycenoid mushroom?
