Field Notes

Description:

The only species of Elk native and only found in California in the wild. Smaller then the other species of Elk and lighter in color with a thick darker mane on neck.

Habitat:

Mostly found in large meadows and marshes.

Notes:

Though these here were found on a wildlife refuge, for their protection against hunters and predators, they are in a very large fenced in area mainly for breeding and redistributing to less populated areas or the older ones for hunting.
