Sitka Black-tailed Deer
Odocoileus hemionus sitkensis
57.683, -152.564
Field Notes
Description:
This deer was eating some sticks on the side of the path. We saw 3 deer on this trail. None of the deer we saw had antlers, but many deer have already dropped them for the winter so it is difficult to say whether or not they are male or female. When we passed, it ran into the bushes, but on our way back it was foraging in the exact same spot.
Habitat:
It looked like it was eating willow branches, but it could have also been alders. Rural trail outside of town between two mountains.
