Field Notes

Description:

Large bird of prey. Juveniles are more dark in color but white axillary ("arm pits") and coverts can be seen when the birds are in flight. Yellow legs. I believe the flight feathers and coloration of this bird puts it somewhere between juvenile and 2 years.

Habitat:

Usually found near water. This one was flying overhead while I was out stalking for spottings.

Notes:

I observed several Bald Eagles on this day. All were flying quite high. There were at least two adults but they were much too high for me to get photos of with my camera. Odd spot in the sky is from my lens.
