Field Notes

Description:

Large mustard dragonfly with delicate black chevrons laterally, one spot per wing end tip dorsal edge

Habitat:

Hunting in a sunny goldenrod field, perched visibly on a leaf surface, this is most likely the same individual photo-ed on different days. I can find what seem to be the same individual invertebrates in the same area of my yard from day to day. Some cruise the same plant for a few days in a row before moving on to some where else. Dragonflies especially like to perch on garden stake tips or ornaments that they can view the terrain from above.
