Field Notes

Habitat:

This Chocolate Albatross was spotted on a patch of weeds in our backyard.

Notes:

Pieridae; Pierinae; Appias lyncida lepidana Fruhstorfer, 1910. In Wikipedia's "List of Butterflies of the Philippines", there are five subspecies of Appias lyncida listed. They are: A. l. enarentina, A. i. andrea, A. l. lepidana, A. l. maccina, and A.l. subenarete. However, Philippine Lepidoptera only have photos of the first three. I think I have only seen andrea and lepidana, in the area where I live (South China Sea coast, Central Luzon), Of these two, I can safely say that A. l. lepidana is the more common Chocolate Albatross in this area..
