Description:
Lifetime: long-Term.
Plant type: Herbaceous plant covered with stinging hairs.
Roots: creeping Rhizome.
The trunk (stem): The stem is erect, with blunt edges, 50-150 cm high, branched.
Height: 60-170 cm.
Leaves: opposite Leaves, ovate, large-toothed along the edge. The entire plant is covered with hairs that contain formic acid. The hairs end in a brittle, silica-soaked tip. When you touch them, the hair heads break off, stick into the skin, forming a wound that gets acid, causing a burning sensation.
Flowers, inflorescences: flowers are nondescript, light green, collected in axillary catkins.
Flowering time: Blooms in June-August.
Fruit: the Fruit is an ovoid small nut.
Ripening time: Ripens in July.
Habitat:
It grows in fertile, moist soils, in shaded areas, ravines, near roads, near farms and housing, in vacant lots and weeds. It is also bred in culture.
