Field Notes

Description:

This Great Bowerbird constructed a beautiful bower using sun bleached snail shells and bones. Not only is this bird a master of architecture, but it also knows that location is everything, check out the view from this bower in the 3rd image! Different individuals sometimes choose different colors, and designs for their nests depending on location and available materials.

Habitat:

The Kimberley

Notes:

Perched on a cliff overlooking the mighty Drysdale River.

This bower is so very decorated and enticing!
Thanks for the clarification, I knew about their decorative purpose but I thought they also served as the nest. It makes sense, eggs would be easily eaten by snakes/monitors on the ground here!
Although it isn't a nest, it's just a beautiful bower to get the female's attention and convince her the male is good mate material. I think she makes a nest in a tree after mating.
I love bowerbird bowers! Thanks for this wonderful spotting and its "view."
