Description:

A common beauty, Buteo jamaicensis, the Red-tailed Hawk, dubbed "chickenhawk" in some areas, is one of the most common raptors in North America. The nickname "chickenhawk" is somewhat misleading as they infrequently prey on chickens. This guy was enjoying a winter day, wind and all. ;-)

Habitat:

Open fields, sitting on telephone wire. Flew behind a house, a couple trees, and into another field.
