Field Notes

Description:

Land mammal was spotted on the side of the road on Sapelo Island, GA. It was foraging for food when we drove by and we stopped for pictures. It eventually turned and ran for cover -- following the side of the road.

Habitat:

Tall grass, bushes and dead trees. This island took a quite a toll from Hurricane Matthew in 2016. Now there are plenty of large downed trees for cover.

Notes:

We were on the island during the Georgia Ornithological Society Winter Meeting on Tybee Island. Sapelo Island was one of the field trips. My target bird was the Plain Chachalaca. I spotted it and 63 other birds around the island.
