Field Notes

Description:

Medium sized mainly black sea urchin. Hemispherical in shape, about 10 cm in diameter, without counting spines. Spines are all of the same size, reaching some 2,5 to 3 cm in length, rather uniform in color (black) and when in water, all standing erect, forming almost a ball of spines. The part around the mouth (bottom) naked.

Habitat:

Rocky coast of Adriatic sea, clean water.

Notes:

These are my son's finds - he adores all sea creatures, and usually spends all of his holiday looking for them. Sea urchins are among his favorites; and after taking them (he is doing it rather expertly, I must admit) out, we take photos and put them back into water.
