Tephritid Fruit Fly
Bactrocera sp.
15.4559, 119.92
Field Notes
Description:
I often see Bactrocera spp. (Tephritid Fruit Flies) on flowers in our yard and along the roadside, but I don't think I have ever seen so many together on one plant at the same time. I was on a spider hunt and these flies were a distraction, but I could not resist one or two pictures.
Habitat:
Spotted on Gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides) locally known as Rosal. This plant was part of a kind of wild hedge which has become entangled on a cyclone wire fence along the side of a rice field.
