Carrhotus viduus
11.0774, 122.705
Field Notes
Description:
First time seeing this species, one of the largest Salticidae I've seen. This specimen is a male, mostly black with a reddish "mask" on the front of the head and distinct, white parallel lines on both the cephalothorax and the abdomen. Females are more brown and have intricate patterns.
Habitat:
Found on a field near a forested area. It is found in South and Southeast Asia from Sri Lanka and India east to China, Myanmar, Vietnam and there have been some unconfirmed reports from Japan and the Sundas. It is found in tropical and subtropical woodlands, including gardens, preferring thick foliage of short trees and shrubs.
